Dog Food

Choose Foods That Will Help Your Dog Thrive

Choosing the proper food for your dog may be the most important decision you make for their overall well being. Higher quality proteins, moisture, and additional whole food ingredients can help your dog thrive while protecting them from common health issues.

Another way to improve your dogs overall nutrition is to practice rotational feeding. For healthy dogs, changing the protein source they eat regularly can help them avoid developing food sensitivities. Rotational feeding can be as simple as switching between a chicken based kibble to a beef based kibble from the same brand.

We’re also big fans of rotating through and combining different food forms to create healthy meals for your dog. Replacing one or more meals a week with a raw food is a great way to get some of the benefits of raw without having the expense of an all raw diet. Adding a topper of any food form to kiibble gives your dog access to less processed protein while keeping the price point low.

The Differences Between Dog Food Forms

When choosing a dog food, you should also consider what food fits with your overall household’s needs. Different households have varying budgets and time that they can devote to meals for their dogs.

Kibble
Kibble is shelf stable, economical food that’s easy to store and convenient to feed.

Wet Food
Wet food ingredients are less processed than most kibbles and contain moisture that can prevent dehydration and reduce possible stress to the kidneys and liver.

Gently Cooked Food
Low temperature cooking kills bacteria and other pathogens but helps the food retain more nutrients versus high temperature cooking methods. The food is then packaged and frozen and ready for you to give to your dog without any additional prep work other than defrosting.

Minimally Processed Food
Minimally processed foods consists of freeze-dried, dehydrated, and air-dried foods. These foods offer many of the benefits of frozen raw but can be stored in your pantry rather than your freezer. Minimally processed food has the convenience of kibble but provides many of the benefits raw has to offer including small stool, clean teeth, and shinier coats.

Frozen Raw
Frozen raw replicates the diet of a dog’s ancestors as closely as possible, providing a diet made primarily of unprocessed meat. Frozen raw dog food is nutritionally balanced, screened for pathogens and is available in different portioned packages for easy feeding.
